WHAT CAUSES

Shin Splints?

Shin splints often occur due to high impact activity and placing too much strain or weight on your leg muscles, tendons or shin bone. This results in muscle, tendon and tissue inflammation around the tibia – or stress fractures on the shinbone – leading to pain and inflammation during or after exercise.

HOW TO TREAT

Shin Splints

While shin splints are not serious injuries, they can be painful and irritating. Apply an ice pack to the affected area for 20 minutes every three hours for a few days to reduce inflammation. Shin splints usually require a break from high-impact activities until the pain subsides, which may take two to four weeks.
